Dove Chocolate Reflection 1

Sometimes even the soul needs a re-boot. It may be that life has been overwhelming, guilt and shame have overtaken us, or we have felt that God has somehow become amorphous or absent.  We may know that what is beyond our daily life is still important, but we lack the energy, motivation, or even desire to seek it out.  Often, we keep doing what isn't nourishing to us simply because we feel we 'should,' or because others feel we 'should.' Or, we've read something in a book or seen something on the news that reinforces the notion that we 'should.'  We 'should' be 'spiritual.'  The trouble is, we just don't feel spiritual.  We want to forget 'spiritual!'  We want a break.  We want to rest.  We want to be free.  Well, if that's how you're feeling, it might be time to act on a Dove Chocolate message -- "Take a cat nap!”

Yes, just stop worrying about being spiritual for a minute.  Though it sounds radical, take a bit of time to do nothing.  Don't push yourself to do spiritual practices.  If you usually go to church, sleep in instead.  Just let your inner self be quiet and still.  You may worry that you will somehow garner God's judgment, or that this is a betrayal of faith, or that a temporary hiatus of your spiritual practices might mean you will never return to them at all! This is just not true.  You are simply giving your soul a Sabbath from the spiritual 'to-do list.'

While your soul is being still and taking its 'cat nap,' God will renew it with the same refreshment that your body receives when you take a nap in the warm summer sun. When it is time, you will wake up, and your soul will feel alive and renewed.  Your spiritual senses will regain their energy and your inner self will shimmer like a moonbeam in a darkened sky.

    Author

Life is rich with texture and beauty. Even the parts that seem unwanted hold within them seeds of grace.

In this blog, you will find all sorts of snippets and vignettes about life - sometimes whimsical, or poetic, or reflective, or my own experiments with life. Perhaps, you will find yourself somewhere in my random musings.

I will write as if I were writing in my personal journal.  Where things touch your soul or might be helpful to someone you know, please share this blog with them.
